Synthetase enzyme class
In biochemistry, a ligase is an enzyme that can catalyze the joining (ligation) of two large molecules by forming a new chemical bond. This is typically via hydrolysis of a small pendant chemical group on one of the larger molecules or the enzyme catalyzing the linking together of two compounds, e.g., enzymes that catalyze joining of C-O, C-S, C-N, etc. In general, a ligase catalyzes the following reaction: WebDec 30, 2024 · Acetyl-Coenzyme A is composed of four distinct molecular parts. 1. Once the pyruvate enters the mitochondrial matrix, the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (consisting of three enzyme subunits E1, E2, and E3) converts it to acetyl-CoA (Figure 5.3. 3) for entry into the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA). This reaction generates NADH and liberates CO 2.

WebApr 9, 2024 · Starch metabolism is a complex and tightly regulated process involving several classes of enzymes, including ADP glucose phosphorylase (AGPase), starch synthase (SS), starch branching enzyme (SBE), starch debranching enzyme (DBE), phosphorylase (PHO), and disproportionation enzyme (DPE). In biochemistry, a synthase is an enzyme that catalyses a synthesis process. Note that, originally, biochemical nomenclature distinguished synthetases and synthases. Under the original definition, synthases do not use energy from nucleoside triphosphates (such as ATP, GTP, CTP, TTP, and UTP), whereas synthetases do use nucleoside triphosphates. However, the Joint Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature (JCBN) dictates that 'synthase' can be used wit…
WebMar 29, 2024 · The human alanyl-tRNA synthetase (AARS) belongs to a family of tRNA synthases, of the class II enzymes. Class II tRNA synthases evolved early in evolution and are highly conserved. This is reflected by the fact that 498 of the 968-residue polypeptide human AARS shares 41% identity witht the E.coli protein. tRNA synthases are the …
